The “JA-in-a-Day” accelerated teaching format, allows community and business volunteers to teach an entire Junior Achievement program, comprised of six lessons, in the course of one school day

FORT WORTH, May 16, 2017 – Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC) partnered with Junior Achievement to bring “JA in a Day” to students from Sam Rosen Elementary in Fort Worth. The partnership includes a Wells Fargo donation of $10,000 to fund this program and the commitment of 30 Wells Fargo team member volunteers from local branches and offices that will be teaching and inspiring more than 260 students from kinder to third grade during a full day program designed to give students an opportunity to learn about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship.

The “JA-in-a-Day” accelerated teaching format, allows community and business volunteers to teach an entire Junior Achievement program, comprised of six lessons, in the course of one school day. This type of program is expected to help students be more financially responsible and potentially make better money management and career decisions over time.

At Sam Rosen Elementary, over ninety percent of students are deemed economically disadvantaged based on their eligibility for free or reduced price lunch or other public assistance. Approximately eighty four percent (84%) of students are considered at risk of dropping out of school, while 61.4% of students are enrolled in bilingual and English language learning programs.

“At Wells Fargo we are deeply committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve. We donate to a wide range of nonprofits and schools as a way to help address some of the social, economic, and environmental challenges our communities face,” said Michelle Eldridge, region sales manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. “At the local level, we focus our philanthropic activities on creating long-term, strategic relationships with nonprofits and other organizations to create innovative, sustainable solutions to meet local needs. We couldn’t be prouder to be making an impact right here in Fort Worth by helping further the mission of Junior Achievement of Chisholm Trail.”

Through the “JA-in-a-Day,” students participate in relevant, hands-on activities to learn about personal financial literacy, including how to balance a budget, the advantages and disadvantages of paying cash versus credit, how their decisions can negatively or positively affect their credit score, and the importance of having insurance, in order to minimize their financial risk. Additionally, work-readiness skills are emphasized as students analyze their abilities, interests and values, and tie their self-knowledge to potential education and career pathways.

Overall, during “JA-in-a-Day,” students gain a glimpse into the business world, and learn things they may have never thought too much about, such as the importance of a firm handshake.

“We are thrilled that Junior Achievement of Chisholm Trail receives volunteer support from Wells Fargo, who has been a longtime champion of Junior Achievement,” said Randal Mays, president of JA Chisholm Trail  “The Wells Fargo volunteers use their financial expertise and real-life knowledge to influence these students at this most critical age, as they are just starting to learn the value of personal financial literacy and the importance of making smart decisions for their future.”
