On August 7, 1936, Pearl Margaret Syon, was born in Layfette, Louisiana to Aline and Dalton Mayfield. She was one of 14 children, 6 sisters and 8 brothers.
She later met and married Joseph Syon at Ann’s Catholic Church on June 19, 1954 and they were married for over 56 years before his passing in September 2010. She was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church for over 47 years. To this union six children were born, Demetrius, Sherri, Christopher, Christopher (Joe-Joe) Mona Lisa, and Bridget.
Momma Pearl, as everyone so lovingly called her, was a Sassy Little Woman that took no stuff from no one. She was known for the little whippings she gave anyone in her path. It did not matter if you were her child, niece, nephew, cousin, or just a friend of someone in that household, you were always disciplined when you messed up. She talked a lot of trash and growing up with 8 brothers, she had no problem trying to back it up. She loved her family unconditionally. Everyone has a story to tell about Momma Pearl, especially Joe-Joe and Mona, who received the bulk of her discipline, grandchildren were no exceptions, especially Kevin, Corey, and Candie. Their home was always open to so many people who passed their way. The memories she left behind are priceless.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, Aline and Dalton, her husband, Joseph, her sons, Demetrius and Christopher, son-in-law, Ron, her grandson, Demetrius II, one sister, Lena, and five of her brothers, Harry, Robert, Pete, Otis, and Paul.
She leaves to mourn her children, Sherri, Joe Joe, (Niecy), Mona Lisa (Curtis), and Bridget (Nathanael), twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; four sisters, three brothers, two sisters-in-law’s and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
