Roy Douglas Malonson, Chairman

Over the course of the last week, I sat wondering just who I wanted to compare the actions’ of our current president to. While pondering on this element, two leaders of the world immediately came to mind: President Richard M. Nixon and Chancellor Adolf Hitler. It is because African-American News&Issues is a publication that thrives off of highlighting current and historical realities affecting our communities that I felt compelled to address this trending issue.

We MUST Understand, anytime there is governmental misconduct found in the seat of the Commander-in-Chief, it is definitely a major concern to our communities and others. Thus, after seeing the effects of the careless decision made by President Donald Trump last week being imposed on White democrats it forced me to wonder; IF WHITE FOLKS DEMOCRACY IS AT STAKE in this presidential administration, THEN HELL… WHAT CHANCE DO WE HAVE as MEMBERS of the AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY???

The way I look at it is…. it was one thing when Trump had his agenda and attention dead set on solely destroying the legacy of former President Barack Obama; because I could easily associate this affect to the color of the former president’s skin. This is not to state that this is an excuse or to be made justifiable, but it is simple a way of life for us Africans living in America. We are used to being attacked because we look different from others. However, President Trump has now shown that he has no regard to anyone when it comes down to the wire. He will destroy or remove anyone who does not support his agenda without respect to race, religion, character or otherwise. This is why the character of Adolf Hitler came to mind in comparison to the personality demonstrated by this POTUS. In order for our readers to best understand the scenario that I am presenting here, I will give you a brief overview of the president’s actions versus the actions of former President Nixon and Chancellor Hitler.

For those of you wondering why I am referring to President Trump as a, “Lil Nixon” or “Lil Hitler” in training, here is why… First I will present a tweet that the president himself posted on Twitter attacking the Democrats and defending his decision to fire the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, James Comey. President Trump tweeted, “The Democrats have said some of the worst things about James Comey, including the fact that he should be fired, but now they play so sad!” He later revisited the subject again on Twitter by tweeting that, “Comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike. When things calm down, they will be thanking me!”

As the weeks go by, this POTUS is appearing to more and more ruthless leaving room for his name to go down in history as one of the worst leaders to ever live amongst us. He acts and makes decisions based off of impulse rather than considering what is most beneficial for the American people. President Trump fired the FBI director simply because he was spearheading the investigation into purging the justice department of the top officials’ involvement in the Russian interference in the 2016 election. Hence many people are revealing that the POTUS actions which stems from his decisions; run parallel to the Nixon-Watergate scandal. But I chose to go a step further and present an even more ruthless dictator as well, Adolf Hitler.

Who was Richard Nixon?

Richard Nixon served as the 37th POTUS. Prior to, he’d served as Vice President under President Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950’s era. He is known for being the first American president to resign his presidential seat. He vacated his seat during his second term in office in order to avoid impeachment efforts from the Watergate scandal. Watergate was a scandal that attempted to cover up illegal activities and involvement from members of the Nixon administration.

Although, Nixon made many good decisions in some way as a president, his actions in Watergate prevailed only to; dismantle his legacy and deepened American cynicism about government. Nevertheless, a person still has to respect President Nixon because he did at least hold himself accountable for the actions of his administration and simply stepped down. It has been recorded that he was the one that said, “You must pursue this investigation of Watergate even if it leads to the president. I’m innocent. You’ve got to believe I’m innocent. If you don’t, take my job.”

Though he rendered these words, it appears even today that he had some form of dignity and respect by means of his actions. Rather than allow the investigation into Watergate and allow the world to make a mockery of the American people, he simply resigned. This is why I chose to go a step further in this editorial to present the actions of one of the most notorious dictators who has ever lived in our society, Adolf Hitler in comparison to our current president.

Who was Adolf Hitler?

In short, Adolf Hitler was a native Australian born in 1889. His fame became known to the world, when he rose to power in Germany as Chancellor and leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party known to many as the Nazi Party. He served as Chancellor of Germany from the years of 1933 through 1945. Simultaneously, he operated in the office of dictator from the time period of 1934 through 1945. It was his initiatives that led to World War II and ultimately the Holocaust.

The holocaust was the genocide in which Adolf Hitler ordered the Nazi Germany and its collaborators to kill nearly six million Jews. His hatred for the Jews was simply fueled by his racial, biological and religious hatred of the Jewish people. It was personal just as the motives demonstrated by President Donald Trump.

So once again, I will state; IF WHITE FOLKS DEMOCRACY IS AT STAKE in this presidential administration, THEN HELL… WHAT CHANCE DO WE HAVE as MEMBERS of the AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY???
