The President of the United States. I like that. It has a ring to it. And it has finally for the first time in a long time in a long time been deserved.
Over the past few years, the term POTUS has taken on a bad wrap. It hasn’t been shown in it’s best light. In fact, instead of being appalled at someone throwing a shoe at the former president, most of us were miffed that he missed not once but twice! I couldn’t fathom anything like that happening like that to President Obama.

I have concerns for President Obama. Many of us do. There are many of us who respect and love him and his family, what he represents, the hope, the love for his family. Many have stated that he might not complete his first term. I know that those that are praying he doesn’t. But there are far more of us that are praying that those hateful, bigots are wrong. Not only will he complete his first term, but he will complete his second term.

I am shocked that three days in, there are the haters that still refuse to acknowledge that this man, this wonderfully talented public servant is the leader of the most powerful free nation in the world. That says something for us as a nation. I know for once I am truly proud. We have come a long way from Billie Holliday’s Strange Fruit. We have come a long way from the days of Dr. King. What is pathetic and what is sad is that this is only the beginning. We still have a long, long way to go. Each journey starts with a single step. Each step takes us in a particular direction. This nation, by an overwhelming majority, have chosen one man to lead us in that direction.

Admittedly, I am afraid. For POTUS, for the US, for my fellow citizens. There has been so much placed on the shoulders of POTUS. The problems he has been left to repair are daunting, overwhelming. Like a reallly bad marriage with no prenup and it was really dirty.

I fear that our country may not have enough time to recover from the eight years of terror that we endured, eight years of national humiliation. The rich getting richer. The poor getting poorer. No one listening, no one caring. And all we could do was pray. Don’t you see? That’s why POTUS is a saviour. He’s something different.

People are losing their jobs, their homes, their lives. POTUS has given us hope that this will change. He has already shown that he cares, that he knows, that he was and is one of us. He has been working for us since before he was official. And still there are those who don’t trust him. There are those that don’t know what he is. There are still people that want to believe the myths, the lies, who refuse to look at the truth. Listen to him, his elegance and graciousness despite and overwhelming defeat from election night:

“And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your president, too.”

“To those Americans whose support I have yet to earn…” You misinformed, uninformed, pompous asses. Do you see his humility? He is looking at your not voting for him as HIS failure, not yours. Somehow his message, the message was lost. ANd it was painful that there was too much partisanship, hatred, racism, bigotry to hear the message. We realized that for the most part it was a lost cause, not anything would have worked to make them listen. But he is an optimist. He has hope, an enduring hope that we pray can sustain us.

POTUS has been totally honest with us. He has been transparent. We know what he plans to do, what he wants to do, what his goals are for our nation.

I know this is selfish but I just want to be able to take my passport and travel and not be afraid to say that I am an American. I miss that clout, the respect. I miss being able to travel and learn, to develop culture. I would love to see our country’s respect restored on the world stage. I want the world to know that POTUS is a leader of a nation and not a bumbling idiot who can’t pronounce nuclear. I want the world to knowthat Secretary Clinton will really promote a legitimate agenda from a legimate leader. I want to see our country grow and prosper.

Is this possible? Is any of this possible?

Only time and POTUS will tell.
