Kim Carter Johnson is a writer, author, artist and poet. Kim worked several years for Continental Airlines in many capacities and was a member of the Continental Management Association. She is also a member of the Water Color Art Society of Houston and serves as a volunteer in the Texas Children’s Hospital “Arts in Medicine Program. “We provide artistic distractions for children in process of or awaiting chemo therapy treatments by providing them with a little instruction, a lot of paint and a lot of love,” she states. After moving to Houston 11 years ago, she discovered a whole new sub culture in the state of Texas. Because of its proximity to Louisiana, the state of Texas is blessed with many people whom hale from the rich culture of the New Orleans and surrounding areas. She was shocked to discover that some of the old ways of keeping color still existed and that the pains of its effects remain real for many ex-residents. Kim explains, “After hearing accounts of old men who never married the women of their dreams because of a darker skin complexion, I become more and more intrigued. I needed to understand the psyche of the Creole culture. The results of a couple of years of research are Color Coded Book I and II. In the books, I took bits and pieces of real life and built a fictitious world around a prominent family. Accounts are so real on some historical facts that when interviewed on a Louisiana Talk Show, they thought that I was a native. In writing the books, I wanted the reader to feel every emotion and every pain.” The books are available on Barnes and Noble.com, and Amazon.com, but can be purchased on this site at a discount! Kim continues to write and is now dabbling in screen writing.
