On Feb. 15, some 190 years ago, Susan Brownell Anthony was born. American history buffs know her name instantly.
Even those who aren’t especially fascinated with American history would do well to learn of the legacy of this determined, courageous and articulate patriot. A Quaker, teacher, temperance and abolition organizer, she also worked for emancipation, and advocated equal pay for equal work.

Her most famous cause, as will be documented forever in American history, was assuring that women in the United States would have the right to vote in public elections. In 1852, at the age of 32, Susan B. Anthony quit teaching and joined the fight for women’s suffrage.

The holiday season is upon us – it’s “everywhere you go:” music, colorful decorations, toys, and non-stop advertising.  For some of us, the holiday season brings joy, celebration, and contentment—the best time of the year. 
For others, it may be the worst of times—the “holiday blues,” seasonal affect disorder (SAD), or depression can set in. Reports in the news often tell of a person being so distraught, they committed an act of violence against another person or themselves. 

By now, you have probably read or heard that use of cell phones and other hand-held electronics behind the wheel is causing problems on the road.  It’s a big change from when we talked on the phone only at home or work, with a roaming distance only as long as the reach of the curling cord attached between the phone and the handset.  We have also passed the point when cordless phone sets gave way to cell phones and texting devices. 

Many of our senior relatives, friends, and neighbors find that they come face to face with situations that require legal assistance and advice. The Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) provides free or reduced-cost legal services for eligible low income, elderly Texans who need the help of an attorney.  In addition, there are government agencies that can counsel and assist seniors in addressing the many issues they face.
