“Birds of a feather flock together”. This simply means that similar people tend to associate with each other. If this is true, take a moment and evaluate the people you associate with on a regular basis. What does the company you keep say about you? Does the company you keep help you or hurt you?

Are you a parent with a daughter who needs additional guidance and encouragement? Are you a worker of a community agency that is responsible for helping minority girls with basic social skills? There are numerous organizations and programs in our country seeking enrollment of young African American/black girls, and struggling to fill open slots. Many of these programs are free!

There is more to you than your looks. Your inner spirit and inner beauty will always out shine your physical appearance. A great attitude & self respect equals a fabulous girl for any circle of friends,

An interview or presentation is not the time to dress like "everybody else". Adhere to the dress code and dress better than what is expected and never less than what is required. Keep in mind that dressing to impress does not mean dressing in a manner that commands attention towards your physical attributes. Doing so may ruin your chances for consideration even if you are the best-qualified applicant.

We, as parents, have the power, and we must promote self-actualization and positively influence our African American girls if we truly want them to enjoy the best that life has to offer.

Eliminate the negative atmosphere of despair and hopelessness that surrounds us by acknowledging the people who are worthy of recognition. They are people in our communities, on our jobs, and in our families
