AUSTIN- What are the effects of serious violence, including the death penalty, in Texas? Listening with empathy and without judgment to narratives of lived experience, The Texas After Violence Project seeks to understand the effects of violent crime and capital punishment and to engage communities in thinking collectively, critically, and constructively about how to respond to and prevent violence most effectively.
Leadership of the Texas After Violence Project includes people in their teens and 20s as well as people ranging in age from their 30s through their 60s. All conversations will take place on Wednesdays in October, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Rev. Marvin C. Griffin Building, 1009 East 11th Street. The conversation dates are as follows: October 7: Violence in Our Communities; October 14: Policing; October 21: Juvenile Justice and October 28: Incarceration.
