John Estorge, Jr. Becomes a Centenarian

John Estorge, Jr. of Houston, recently turned 100 years old. His family and friends gathered at St. Monica Catholic Church for a Celebratory Mass and Reception. John, who studied in Spain, worked for 47 years, at the Houston Club where he became personnel manager and matri’ D of the dining room. HOUSTON- John Estorge, Jr. was born to Mary Rebecca Broussard and John Estorge, Sr. on September 3, 1909 in Houston, Texas. He attended Jack Yates High School and graduated in the first class in 1927. He worked in service all of his life and his last employment was 47 years at the Houston Club located at Walker @Rusk where he served many of Houston’s prominent citizens and entertainment figures. His services were sought after by the rich and famous. He became personnel manager and matri’D of the dining room. He studied in Spain and became a wine connoisseur.
He married Marjorie Augustine Lamperez at St. Nicholas Catholic Church on October 8, 1930. They were the loving parents of five children; Johnnie Mae Roy, Mary Catherine Hamilton, Erie Elaine Calloway, Agnes Cecile Dunbar and John Estorge III. He provided all of his children with higher education and supported them in all of their endeavors.
He and his late wife, Marjorie, have 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
He became a strong supporter of the rights of his people and held membership in the NAACP, Houston Citizens Chamber of Commerce, The Acres Home Citizen Chamber of Commerce and a Life member of the YMCA. He is a man of strong character, a family man with strong Catholic Christian faith, a role model, and a man of courage.
