HOUSTON- The Urban League’s Young Professionals 2nd Annual Voters Registration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, from 9 am- 2 pm.
The City-wide voter registration drive will take place in several neighborhoods within the Greater Houston area. Alief, Sharpstown, Spring Branch, Memorial, Third Ward, Midtown, Acres Homes, Greenspoint, Gulfgate, and Fifth Ward are some of the locations that will be encompassed in this effort.
City-wide voter registration is a community service project which is organized by the HAULYP and geared towards engaging all Houston residents in the election process- and most importantly getting them registered to vote.
Last year HAULYP registered over 700 people to vote. The organizations goal this year is to record between 1,000 – 1,500 residents.
To achieve the current target, HAULYP is partnering with several like-minded organizations such as the National Pan-Hellenic Council, National Society of Black Engineers, Houston Area Urban League Guild, 100 Black Men, African Professional Network and Houston Votes.
HAULYP is an auxiliary of the Houston Area Urban League. Their mission is to build a positive synergy that will advance activism in the community among young professionals under the age of 40. For more information, contact Darrell Johnson at (713) 305-7063.
