HOUSTON- The Riverwood Estates Civic Club (RWECC), under the direction of Mae Sykes, president, held its monthly meeting at the Barbara Jordan Community Center, 6500 Windfield Road, located in Northeast Houston.
The guest speaker was Dr. Margaret Ford-Fisher, Houston Community College (HCC). She announced to the North Forest residents, that the HCC Board had approved the Annexation of North Forest Independent School District (NFISD).   She explained the benefits of HCC, coming into the community. What does annexation mean?
The community of NFISD, has petitioned to vote to be annexed by the HCC District. NFISD will continue to retain its identity and separate board. The HCC District will receive, property taxes and provide expanded benefits and reduced tuition as described in “The Service Plain for the North Forest Community.”
Starting in 1996, began offering NFISD students Dual Credit for classes. HCC continues to offer North Forest residents Dual Credit courses, College Options, Traditional College Courses and continuing education.
The community of NFISD will vote “for” or “against” Annexation on November 3, 2009.
