African-American students, on average, did not do well on the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). Indeed, the 2009 results show Black students trailing all other major racial and ethnic student groups.
In reading, White students led the way with an average score of 528. Followed by Asian Americans with an average score of 516, Hispanic students with 455 and Blacks with 429. In math, Asian students had an average score of 587. Followed by Whites at 536; Hispanics at 461 and Blacks at 426.
Educators also remain baffled as to why Hispanics are scoring higher than Blacks in reading and writing when English is a second language for many Latino students stressing income could be a factor.
