"BACK – TO – SCHOOL GLAMOUR DAY "

With many gearing up to sponsor Back-to-School drives, two organizations decided to go a step further than just giving out school supplies.  On August 23, 2009, was indeed more than a back-to-school event to give out school supplies and uniforms Devine Creations and Broken Chains Outreach Ministry partnered together to give young boys and girls free haircuts and hairstyles to begin their 1st day of school. Hairstylist Antoinette Parson, owner of Hair Designs by Antoinette and other local stylists (Ashaki and Twanna) along with master barber Phillip Davis opened their hearts and hands to provide this free service.  A total of 18 children were serviced ranging in age from 8 to 17.

The children were provided lunch and free dental supplies donated by Homestead Family Dental.  Ms. Verna Caddie and Ms. Georgetta Carvin are both graduates of Barbara Jordan High School for Careers.  In 2006, they collectively joined their strengths and resources to give back to young boys and girls as well as share the love of Jesus Christ while meeting the needs of underprivileged and disadvantaged youth. The day ended with prayer for each student and for their parents.
