There are countless incidents of late, where right-wing hecklers and protesters show up at townhall meetings sponsored by congressional members across the country. Most of the meetings have focused on the president’s healthcare reform iniative. These hecklers and protesters are partially motivated by many of the lies and distorted truths that are broadcast over the airways by conservative talk-radio personalities.

This is America, all individuals have the freedom of speech, but these people want to use this freedom to become disruptive and disorderly. Regardless of their efforts, the truth always prevails. The truth is bigger than any one individual or group.

As much as I want to have empathy for them, it’s hard to as long as they deny the truth. When I was growing up, I was sometimes threatened with being killed if I lied to my parent or grandparent. Of course, I knew that they wouldn’t literally kill me (I didn’t find that out until later), but this was their way of saying don’t lie to them.

I remember those threats to this day. I wonder what happened to that desire of “not wanting others to lie to us”. Today there are many news segments showing these angry, aggressive protesters, not in Iran or Korea, but here in America.

These groups of right-wing advocates are flooding townhall- style meetings, sponsored by congressional leaders to discuss issues of concern to all Americans, with disruptive behaviors.  Because of their opposition to this and other  legislation, these hecklers are causing disruptions throughout the country. Many are being spurred on by conservative right-wing talk-radio hosts.

They don’t really care about truth. They care about ratings and keeping their listening base.  So the truth to them and their listeners is based on what they think and believe it to be.

Many of these conservative talk-radio hosts could really care less about America or the truth.  They care about the power and influence that they are perceived to have.  This article isn’t about the talk-radio personalities it’s about the “truth”.

We must not allow individuals to distract us. We must not become puppets of individuals who have disruptive and divisive motives. The hecklers, protesters, and warmongers will become weary and find other activities for their causes.

I’m glad that I desire the truth even if I don’t like it or agree with it.  I’m comforted  by the biblical passage, which graciously reminds me, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  It doesn’t say that it will make me feel good, but it will free me, and freedom always feels good to me.

Those of us who delight in the truth will always outnumber those who choose to be disruptive and divisive in the name of lies and half-truths. I believe that deep down inside of most of these disruptive and divisive individuals, they want the truth. They just want to pick and choose who it comes from.
