Fleeting Truth
When I was growing up, I was sometimes threatened with being killed if I lied to my parent or grandparent. Of course, I knew that they wouldn't literally kill me (I didn't find that out until later), but this was their way of saying don't lie to them. I remember those threats to this day. I wander what happened to that desire of "not wanting others to lie to us".
Today there are many news segments showing these angry, aggressive protesters, not in Iran or Korea, but here in America. These groups of right-wing advocates are flooding townhall style meetings, sponsored by congressional leaders to discuss issues of concern to all Americans, with disruptive behaviors. Because of their opposition to this and other legislation, these hecklers are causing disruptions throughout the country. Many are being spurred on by conservative right-wing talk-radio hosts.
Many of these individuals refer to themselves as "good Americans". What's so "good" about being disruptive, destructive, and disillusioned about what "America" is suppose to be about? These types of individuals aren't interested in the "Truth". They have their own distorted view of what "truth" is to them, and that's all that matters to them.
I sometimes listen to individuals who call in to one of the talk-radio personalities' show. These individuals call in trying to have a dialogue witht he host, not knowing that he doesn't care about what they have to say, if it goes against what he thinks. These radio hosts make their living (money) catering to the views and beliefs of their listening audience.
They don't really care about "truth". They care about ratings and keeping their listening base. So the "truth" to them and their listeners is based on what they think and believe it to be.
Many of these conservative talk-radio hosts could really care less about "America" or the "Truth". They care about the power and influence that they perceive to have. This article isn't about the talk-radio personalities it's about the "truth".
We must not allow individuals to distract us from the "truth". We must not become puppets of individuals who have disruptive and divisive motives. The hecklers, protesters, and warmongers will become weary and find other activities for their causes.
I'm glad that I desire the "truth", even if I don't like it or agree with it. I'm comforted by the biblical passage, which graciously reminds me, "Ye shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free." It doesn't say that it will make me feel good, but it will free me, and freedom always feels good to me.
For those of us who delight in the "Truth" will always outnumber those who choose to be disruptive and divisive in the name of "lies" and "half-truths". I believe that deep down inside of most of these disruptive and divisive individuals they want the "truth", they just want to pick and choose who it comes from.
