HOUSTON- A formal letter was distributed at a sit down dinner in The Brady’s Landing Banquet Room, 8505 Cypress Street, dedicated to the brothers and sisters in Christ and others who have supported and contributed to the Houston Christian Institute (HCI). The letter stated, “It is the pleasure of the HCI building fund of trustees to present to you the final distribution of funds by the H.C.I. building fund board of trustees. “The H.C.I. building fund board of trustees was started on March 10, 1994, for the purpose of receiving and accumulating “all funds contributed to the H.C.I for the purpose of constructing, operating and /or maintaining a college campus.”

Members of the H.C.I. building fund board of trustees are Dr. Ben Echols, Philip Hagans, Frank Melton, Ted Poe and Jim L. Culpepper. A few years ago, a 35-acre track of land was purchased whereby the organizers planned to build a facility. However, the board of directors made a decision not to build.

The land was sold, and the funds were returned to the building fund at the end of June 2009, with a balance in the Merrill Lynch account of $344,959.38. Under the board of directors, Thomas Foster, Bob Johnson and Ray Wilkerson, will pay all funds remaining in the Merrill Lynch Account to the Southwestern Christian College (SWCC) for a building to be named and dedicated on behalf of H.C.I. S.W.C.C will also maintain a program to receive men and women from H.C.I. to continue their Bible studies and preparations as preachers and teachers in the Church of Christ.

Dr. Jack Evans Sr. serves as president and John Tillman Jr. is on the Board of Directors of S.W.C.C.
