HOUSTON- The  Divas of God, Inc.,  presented a “Fashion for a Cause” at  Brady’s Landing Restaurant, 8505 Cypress St. Held as the organization’s Second Annual Banquet, the event which brought attention to HIV/AIDS and Obesity; Prevention and Assistance, used the theme: “Standing in a Falling World.” As she greeted the attendees and supporters, Mrs. Georgia Robinson, founder and president stated, “We have come together to give recognition to those who give humbly to their community and making a change in the lives of others.”

Dr. Bonita Davis, vice president of the Divas of God, Inc., and the 2008 Queen stated, “What a grand opportunity to highlight an individual in the medical field. Without such commitment and dedication toward the improvement of lives of those less fortunate, little or no success would be evident in the communities we serve.” She continued, “Serving mankind and coordinating an event of this nature is a tremendous and challenging undertaking. I applaud those individuals for their hard work and commitment to make this challenge successful.”

The invocation was given by Rev. Johnny L. Goff Sr., pastor of Greater Friendship Baptist Church, and Mrs. J.B. Boykins served as fashion commentator. HIV/AIDS stats were given by Amber Davis and Maxine Young and the Honoree Speaker was Rev. Byron Jones, chair of the Urban AIDS Ministry and CEO of AAA Communication Services. After the solo by Larry D. Smith, Leal Lindsey served as the obesity speaker. The fahion show  focused on “Hats, Hats,  and More Hats,” “Fashions Galore,” “Church - Dress Fit for the King,” and “Formal - Night of Elegance.”
