HOUSTON- Individuals of diverse ethnicities are encouraged to set aside time on Saturday, August 1, 2009 to Commit for Life and become a blood donor. Donations from any community are important to help meet the daily need of 1,000 donations. However, donors from the Hispanic, African-American and Asian communities are especially important as they help meet a unique need.
Many patients who receive blood, including those with rare blood types, are more likely to find a match among donors of their same race or ethnicity. In the Houston area, less than 35 percent of blood donors come from diverse communities. Join them at the Bill T. Teague Neighborhood Donor Center, located at 1400 La Concha Lane, from 8a.m. to 4.pm.
