Deluxe Entertainment Camp for Kids Summer Enrichment Program

HOUSTON- The Deluxe Entertainment Camp for Kids (D.E.C.K.) is a non-traditional summer enrichment camp developed by Fifth Ward HISD schools and the University of Houston School of Theatre & Dance.
This Year’s program theme, Inspiration for Creation: Where the Sidewalk Ends and Creativity Begins, is based on the work of legendary author and illustrator, Shel Silverstein. D.E.C.K. participants (2009-2010 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders) discovered the artist within themselves and interpret Silverstein’s work through classes in dance, acting, music, and puppetry.
Involvement in this program allowed students to develop writing skills focusing on the development of ideas, organization, and voice; develop a greater understanding of arts terminology through hand-on learning; set goals and identify issues that interest them and work together to create a performance based on those issues.
At the end of the program, the students showcased their creations in an original work designed and performed by them.
