HOUSTON- Georgia Provost, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, is a graduate of Texas Southern University and was inducted into the “Wall of Honors.” She received advanced studies from the University of Houston and the Winona National School of Professional Photography. The studios of Provost and Associates, 3821 N Macgregor Way, contain photographs that show the rich culture and history of Texas, Louisiana and all parts in between.
Her photographic firm has been chronicling Houston and many other communities with portraits and photographs since 1948. She is a member of Our Mother of Mercy Parish serving as the Coordinator of the Civil Rights Class; Executive Director of the TSU Bayou Bend Alumni/Ex-Students Association, Inc.; The T.F. Freeman Ministers/Laity Summit; and the Black Texans Council for Higher Education. Provost is a leader with the Texas Metropolitan Organization (TMO) and the Public Relations Director for MacGregor Publicity.
She has been honored with numerous awards, including five “Business Woman of the Year” and six “Youth Leadership” awards. Provost is a community volunteer and a part of the dynamic fundraising team of Helfman, Provost and I.B.I.U. Her philanthropic pursuits along with her business, also gave her a chance to work with the Youth of Houston and Harris County. It is evident that she lives her philosophy of life, “Faith combined with hard work equals success, and to do all things with love.” She is the widow of the late Herbert Provost and the mother of Jerome, also a photographer.
We salute Georgia Provost as this week’s Living Legend and invite you to send in who you think will make a good Living Legend and why they should be honored.
