HOUSTON- “A Rose Blooms in Spanish Harlem” indicating some good, coming from something perceived as being bad. There is a beautiful bountiful garden growing in the Heart of 5th Ward on Farmer Street at the sap track. The Fifth Ward/Farmer Ave. Enrichment  Community Garden, an affiliate garden of Urban Harvest.
Urban Harvest, located 2311 Canal St., Suite 122,  is a local charitable organization supporting a network of urban gardens, farms and orchards that inspire and empower people of diverse backgrounds to grow food in the city. These gardens and farms are located at schools, youth centers, parks, housing projects, places of worship, vacant lots and therapy centers, and serve to educate, strengthen community spirit, create therapeutic environments and provide food and income. Their work benefits the community by improving health. It also builds engaging schools, neighborly communities and valuable local businesses that together sustain and improve our environment.  A community garden, if put in the right place and sufficiently supported, provides a public demonstration that residents can indeed build something beautiful together.
The garden is maintained by Super Neighbor #55, Barbara Miller (President), Craig Miller (vice President), Jarvis Johnson (City Council District B). The Harvest of Greens, Cabbage, Corn, Watermelons, Cantaloupes, Squash, Tomatoes, Okra, etc, is distributed to the Elderly in the community.
