AUSTIN- The Third Annual Austin African American Book Festival will feature the 2009 Pulitzer Prize winner Annette Gordon Reed. The theme of the book festival is Dreams In Me, Narratives of Black Women Writers.The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2009 from 10a.m.-4p.m. and will take place on the grounds of the Carver Branch Library and the Carver Museum and Cultural Center, 1161 Angelina. This celebration of African-American literature will be a family-oriented fun -filled day of celebrating the joy of reading.
This year’s book festival will also feature bestselling authors Bernice McFadden, whose best known work is her first published novel Sugar; Anita Richmond Bunkley who self-published her first novel after 32 rejections and being told that “Blacks did not read many books,”  and Harvard Business School Grad, Carla Harris, the author of Expect to Win: Proven Strategies for Success from a Wall Street Vet.
Activities for the kids include Austin storyteller Carla Nickerson, arts and crafts, book giveaways for kids and an array of other activities lined up for young book lovers. Activities will be going on both in the courtyard and inside the library. Vendors include booksellers, and other small business owners.
