Round Rock, TX to Celebrate Juneteenth for First time

ROUND ROCK- For the first time in its history, Round Rock, TX will be celebrating Juneteenth with a festival of activities. The Voice and the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department are co-hosting the city’s first 2-day Juneteenth Festival, and Rhythm & Ribs Celebration. Activities begin on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 5:00 pm with a presentation of live music acts. On Saturday June 20, from 11:00a.m. to 6:00p.m., there will be live music, food, kid’s entertainment, a BBQ cook-off, and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
The Voice is an organization that is dedicated to the strengthen the family and the Community by providing a variety of resources that will equip children and families with the tools they need to be successful in different aspects of their life. This will empower them to make a positive change in their immediate family and respective neighborhoods.
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the state of Texas. It is a day of reflection, a day of renewal, and a pride-filled day. It is a moment in time taken to appreciate the African-American experience. Juneteenth today, celebrates African-American freedom while encouraging self-development and respect for all cultures.
