The problem with Juneteenth in America today is that NOT ENOUGH AFRICAN AMERICANS CELEBRATE IT!  Juneteenth is the day of celebration that recognizes the emancipation of African slaves in America, the obvious ancestors of African Americans.  It is the celebration of the physical freedom of our families, our relatives, our bloodlines and heritage.

Juneteenth is one of the most important moments in African American history, and yet, in many Black communities it is as obscure as a strange hand reaching out from the darkness.  Sadly, like most of historicity and significant moments in African American history, it too has become so marginalized that it poses as a sideshow for the ‘real’ American celebrations.  The events are scarce and scattered.

One has to search and search just to find a Juneteenth celebration in cities that are home to thousands of African American people.  Sure, you can find these celebrations, but you don’t see them being in commercial ads, here about them all day on radio, and you certainly don’t see them being talked about in every day media.  Are African Americans so obsessed with acceptance by white America that they will openly and boldly disassociate themselves with anything that is related to their own freedom and determination against injustice?

The celebration of your own freedom has become taboo by guess who-  You.  These words should not be a shock to you, nor should they make you offended.  These words should make you think seriously about the context in which you see yourself in this country and how your children will soon follow a path of self denial if you do not change your behavior.

Misguidance, misinformation, miseducation, and indoctrination- all unfortunate and detrimental aspects of the state of the collective Black mind in America.  So much so, that the event/celebration of Juneteenth (the freedom of the African slave in America) is overcast by the freedom of the African slave’s master.  This is a dismal legacy to pass on to our children African America.
