Chicago, Illinois, May 2009 - IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD. For many of us, the thought of losing a child is unfathomable, but to have a child killed due to gun violence is totally unacceptable and preventable in a lot of the cases. Yet, it seems we can only sit by and watch as our children die senselessly.
LET'S KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE THIS SUMMER. If you and other mothers and fathers are the ones with a car and the time, organize car pools and take children and young people to museums, the library, to church, plays, workshops and sports events.
Andrea Sanders Williams (who passed away from complications of asthma in April 1997 at the age of 26) was the daughter of the founder of Andrea and Me and Me Too, an online e-tailer, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of young people. She believed that she could make that difference in a small way by creating positive message T-shirts. The T-shirts would have messages aimed at young gang leaders to get them motivated to envision what they could become after developing their talents (i.e., drawing, organizing and being leaders) by owning their own businesses and Fortune 500 companies.
Some of the artwork and messages for T-shirts being given away is:
“If you can run this gang (young men carrying guns)...then you can run this gang (young men without guns carrying briefcases going to work at a fortune 500 company)”.
“Like to draw on things...then start here (school) and end up here (their own fortune 500 design company).”
