ALEXANDRIA, LA- Prison Fellowship will join with the Alexandria City Council on Thursday, May 28, 2009 in hosting a community-wide meeting in the Convention Hall at the City Hall building downtown. The purpose of the Town Hall Meeting is to bring key stakeholders including citizens, public officials, agencies, faith and church leaders, employers, workforce practitioners, and community-based organizations together to address the needs of released offenders returning to Alexandria and CenLA from state prisons and jails.
“Prisoner reentry is not only a public safety issue but it also impacts economic development, workforce pool, and perceived quality of life in a city or region. We are excited and proud to bring our OUT4LIFE campaign to Alexandria. This broad-based-effort has been very successful in four regions of Louisiana and is being developed in other States,” said Jean Bush, National Director of OUT4LIFE. This community-based reentry program has caught attention of high-level leaders across the state and across the nation because the key goal is to bring people together to improve the quality of their community and the lives of released offenders by helping them to become faithful workers, responsible parents and contributing citizens.
In 2008, Prison Fellowship, the largest prison outreach ministry in the world, partnered with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections to launch the OUT4LIFE Conference in Shreveport. Since then, 4 regional coalitions and over 300 organizations in Louisiana have started working together through the OUT4LIFE Coalition Network. The next OUT4LIFE Conference will be held in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 14-16, 2009.
