HOUSTON- Stelle Claughton Middle School, a Spring ISD school,  has been selected one of 10 national 2009 Breakthrough Schools by MetLife Foundation and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). The NASSP Breakthrough Schools Project identifies and recognizes high-achieving middle schools and high schools that are dramatically improving student achievement while serving large numbers of students living in poverty.
Claughton readily met the criteria. The school has an enrollment of about 1,500 students, 74 percent of whom are eligible for free or reduced meals. Claughton has exceeded the state assessment standard for performance on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) over the last three years and is currently a Texas Education Agency Recognized campus.
