Kim Thomas is a "peculiar" Afro American woman with a unique sense of style and presence. She loves her family, treasure her friends, and serves the most High. She has an undeniable urge to uplift, encourage, and support minority young girls and teen girls.
She is the Executive Director of an inspirational organization for African American girls called Afro Puffs and Ponytails, Inc. “Birds of a feather flock together”. This simply means that similar people tend to associate with each other. If this is true, take a moment and access the people you associate with on a regular basis. What does the company you keep say about you? Does the company you keep help you or hurt you?
In the story of Jonah and the whale (Jonah1:1-17), everyone tends to focus on Jonah being swallowed by the whale for 3 days and 3 nights. He was disobedient to God and decided to go his own way instead of God’s way. Whereas that part of the story is important, let’s take a look at another part of this story.
Jonah was disobedient and decided to get on a ship going in a totally different direction from where God told him to go. After the ship departed and was out at sea, a storm began to rise. The wind began to blow and the people on that ship began to fear for their lives. What did those people do at that point? What everyone does when in trouble, plead to their gods. The ship was experiencing a terrible storm because a disobedient individual was in the company of those people. That storm was meant for Jonah, but because everyone was in his company, they experienced that storm as well. It wasn’t until they prayed for Jonah and threw him overboard that the storm subsided.
Are you experiencing some bad storms in your life? Do you have bad company on your ship of life? Sometimes, you have to distance yourself from bad company in order to successfully reach your goals in life. Sometimes, the blessings that God has in store for you are for you and not the bad company that you keep. Often times, people refrain from helping you because of the bad company that you keep. Removing bad company from your ship of life doesn’t mean you don’t care about them. Removing bad company from your ship makes them realize that they need to get their life together. It also means your life will be more fulfilling, less stressful, and full of blessings if you are obedient.
If the company you keep is constantly encouraging you to do something that is wrong, pray for them and remove them from your ship. If the company you keep is constantly getting in trouble, pray for them and remove them from your ship. If the company you keep benefits from your company and you receive nothing but a major energy surge, pray for them and quickly remove them from your ship. Begin to remove bad company from your life and watch how fast the storms begin to subside and how your life begins to change for the better.
