HOUSTON- The African-American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston celebrates 21 years of service to the African-American community. More than 400 people will gather at the annual banquet, where Houston Mayor Annise Parker will be the guest speaker.
The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza Northwest, March 6, 12801 Northwest Freeway at 7:30p.m.
The night of celebration will highlight community accomplishments and the presentation of business and community awards. Honorary chairs are Roy Douglas and Shirley Ann Malonson, African-American News&Issues and Shirley Ann’s Black Art & Kollectibles, along with Armando and Corina Perez. Mr. Perez is senior vice president of H-E-B.
Mr. Malonson, is also chairman and co-founder of the chamber along with the late Thelma Lastrap, Rep. Sylvester Turner and Atty. Thomas Jones, Jr. The chamber, organized in 1989, was originally named the Acres Homes Citizens Chamber of Commerce, and came about as the result of a desire to create a better place for the residents of Acres Homes community in Houston. It has grown to accommodate the Greater Houston area.
