God never called us to make moral decisions based on fear, negativity, and guilt. We did not vote for issues but we voted for a man who we believed can best represent God's ultimate choice. We were taught to pray for the person that God wanted in power. How in the world did we water down these basic truths by our political opinions? The results of the election showed how many of us rejected outright God's mandate of what became His ultimate choice namely, President-elect Barack Obama. It was not about the issues, the principles, the rhetoric, the lies, the truth, the right or wrong. It was about the person. Sound familiar? Destiny calls, sets the agenda and creates the path for the journey.
There was a Christian backlash of disappointment, hate, and anger because of God's choice. Did these leaders honestly have faith in God? Who for months were the forerunners giving encouragement to many in their congregations to pray for God's will to be established in choosing the next president? It was only afterwards that many believed well meaning Christians measured God's actions to be untrue when the reality of God's will in this election they had prayed for came to past. However, in the case of Barack Obama. leaders concluded the democratic nominee was God's second choice.
If we were trained to hear the voice of God and sincerely wanted to be directed by what he was saying upon the earth than there would not have been a surprise or rebellious reaction against the Will of God. If you read A.W. Tozer book, he made the following observation: praying effectively meant that Christians must pray within the context of the world situation as God sees it.
Many negative assertions about Barack Obama's record were false and not supported by factual truths. Information about Obama's character and reputation circulated on the Internet may become for some Christians a high price for God to set the record straight. The conservative bloggers in their writings, from the inception of the presidential race, associated Obama as the anti-Christ and Muslim. These characterizations were absurd.
The consequence and God's
antidote can bring much shame on the Body of Christ when we already
knew these facts were lies but yet we chose to oppose the truth.
We were called in these critical times to hear the voice
of God. If we truly professed the Kingdom
of God as being our Kingdom then it should have been apparent
the voices of our political pundits and Internet commentaries could
not have had the power to distract us from hearing the voice.
God at His discretion placed and removed leaders from high positions of government throughout history.
It is God who chose the man that will be the President for the next four years. I believe that Republicans grieved the Heart of God when they so conveniently marginalized just two moral
evils: abortion and gay marriages. God saw a greater picture of the immorality of this nation and incorporated more of the following: greed and corruption ( as evidenced in the sub-prime loans which caused millions of homes across America to go into foreclosure); racism and disparity between economic classes; the poor being disenfranchised from being a part of the American dream-called equal opportunity; poverty in our cities; absent of high quality educational resources, such as a
safe environment and good teachers which many of our schools lack; drugs; divorce rates which are statistically higher among Christian families; genocide still present among the native Americans; and
children who are abused every day in the name of religion. We are not two-issue Christians. The sins of social injustice are as equally offensive to the Holiness of God as are the sins of abortion and gay marriages. Why did we distort all sins and removed some from the level playing field that were previously set from the beginning of time? The word of God simply said we were not to delete or add to His Word.
The best biblical argument confirming the thinking in the Christian community was quoted in a Christian magazine: Neither candidate share all my views on the important moral and social ills of our day. But after considering Scripture along with the social and economic needs of people, Obama is for me, the clear choice. He continued to state the historical reasons: America is still a nation of inequalities. There is racial profiling in law enforcement and systemic discrimination in housing, education and mortgage lending... These practices are no less immoral than homosexuality and abortion.
We are not in the position to throw stones at another human being if we ourselves are not in the place to demonstrate God' s power and love. He who was without sin, let him first cast the stone.
Our job is to pray and repent for our sins and the sins of America. This includes praying for President Barack Obama. We come out of the realm of God's word when we pursue with religious arrogance to judge Obama's heart. Let us stop being god for God
Daniel, Joseph and Esther were positioned, chosen by God, in
heathen nations to build His Kingdom and to demonstrate to the world
the greatness and power of God. There was no record in the Word of
God that Joseph, Daniel, and Esther accused leaders. They actively
involved themselves with plans to defeat their enemies by the use of
God's power. They did extraordinary exploits by the Hand of God.
Religious accusations about President Barack Obama are not our
weapons. We are designed to be overcomers by the definition of the
Cross. The Word of God teaches us to become a visible force in the
deep trenches of world problems and for every member to present
themselves as the light on the hill.
History under God's
terms was and still is controlled by Him. We must believe the same
God who led the Jews out of Egypt into the promised land with great
riches can do the same for His people in the twenty-first century.
God chose King Cyrus, who by the way was a Persian King, to make sure
the
Jews were released from the nations he ruled and helped them build a place for them to worship God.
God also chose ungodly kings over Israel to awaken and remind the Jews, His chosen people, that they were covenant breakers.
Christians whom the world is watching must demonstrate God's power not in fear or self-righteousness but with utmost humility and love. America is being reminded by God that we (The Body of Christ) need to repent, humble ourselves, seek and hunger for His Presence upon the earth. It is a simple command that God spoke in 2 Chronicles 7:14. This includes every religious leader. Let us stop being god for God.
The question left for American Christians which begs to be answered: Was it the responsibility of politicians to legislate morality? Derrick W. Hutchins argued: “We cannot look to the president to turn the tide of sin in our nation. The church must be that light in our generation.” Let us stop being god for God.
