According to a CNN report, the government could have disrupted an al Qaeda plot to bomb an airliner on Christmas Day, but failed to identify Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab as a potential bomber. The report said it was due to the inability of the intelligence community to “connect the dots” in putting all the pieces of information and analysis together.” I wondered about this because, after 9-11, personal experience showed that African-American travellers were searched more thoroughly than middle easterners, although we had nothing to do with the World Trade Center disaster.

I chalked that one up to a dummy mentality, such as when an employer told of an employee he once hired who had spent 10 minutes watering silk plants. They allowed her to do it twice, once because they couldn’t believe she was really doing it and the second time because they had employees who had missed it the first time.

I never cease to be amazed at the level of stupidity we are challenged to deal with on a daily basis. Sometimes it is downright frightening. But I have always believed we can either be part of the problem or part of the solution. I have decided to become part of the solution. I have met many idiots that have found themselves entangled with some real dummies and my heart goes out to them. I have learned a thing or two along the way about dealing with dummies and hopefully, my insights will help a few people out there.

I have discovered that, with the decline of the educational system in America, the country is becoming more and more narrowly divided into two types of people: idiots and dummies. The idiots are the ones who were foolish enough to hire the dummies, elect the dummies, marry the dummies or try to help the dummies. Some idiots have even given birth to the dummies. This can be caused by bi-intelligent marriages. (Most idiots will get that later, but the dummies will never get it.)
There is one key factor distinguishing idiots from dummies—dummies never quite get the fact that they are, in fact, dummies. But after dealing with dummies for a while, the idiot comes to realize that he is, in fact, an idiot for ever entangling himself with this dummy in the first place.

After the idiot comes to the realization of his own true state, he usually comes to another realization. He is, for whatever reason and whatever season of time, stuck with the dummy. He must now make the best of an insane situation or forever wander around the rabbit hole like Alice in Wonderland.

The first thing that should be understood about dummies is that dummies require a lot of supervision. This is because they have a difficult time thinking on their own and making the right choices. Remember, they are dummies and dummies make a lot of mistakes. If some idiot isn’t looking over their shoulder, he’ll mess things up every time.

This used to frustrate me to no end because I just expected people to use common sense. But one thing I have discovered over the years is sense is not so common.
Have you ever found yourself saying, “How many times have I told you…?” The answer is “apparently, not enough times.” This is because you are probably dealing with a dummy. Dummies need repetition. This is because everything you tell them flies right into one ear and out of the other. It takes a while for them to grasp that this is something they are actually supposed to remember. When speaking to a dummy, it is also important to speak slowly, as it takes a lot of time for them to process thought. Saying things slowly, over and over again, will help dummies to remember simple instructions. This is probably the most important thing to remember about dummies.

We will always have dummies with us. And for some of us, that can be a good thing. Dummies will hang in there when everyone else walks away.
They just don’t know any better. And some very lonely idiots need that.
