Homegoing Services for Deacon Menick Jones

Menick Jones was born on Feb. 29, 1932. He was the fifth child of ten children, born to Wilmer and Sementher P. Jones, in Cypress, Louisiana, where he attended school. He was employed as a driver. On Aug. 29, 1954, he united in holy matrimony with Dorothy Mae Hubert. To this union, five boys were born: Donald, Michael, Ronnie, Garry and Derrick.
Jones worked for 34 years at Hydrill Tool Company before finding employment with the North Forest ISD, where he worked for 10 years.
In Feb. 1964, Jones united with the Little Union Missionary Baptist Church, where he was baptized by the late Rev. A.G. Robertson. Deacon Jones served the church in the following capacities: Superintendent of the Sunday School, teacher of the Brotherhood, BTU and Vacation Bible School; President of Senior Choir, member of the Male Chorus, patron for the drill team, and member of the Deacon Board.
He was frequently asked to be a guest speaker at various churches in and around the Houston area. In 1982, he received his Doctorate of Divinity from Union Baptist College and Seminary, Houston, Texas. Social memberships included: Treasurer for the Settegast Civic Club of Houston and The Independent Charity Association of Houston.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Ollie Bell, six brothers, Burlington, Milton, Frank, Felton, Burkman and Foster. Jones leaves to cherish his devoted wife of 55 years, Dorothy M. Jones; five sons, Donald (Pamela), Michael, Ronnie, Garry (Kim) and Derrick (Karen); eight grandchildren, Donald Jr.(Ava), Jason, Ronnecia, Chassie, Jasmine, Mialaka, Kayla and Jaymin; eight great grandchildren, Donnecia, Eboni, Bria, Jadon, Ovia, Aalyia, Jayla, and Cierra; one brother, Wilmer (Marie) and one sister, Jessie. Jones is also survived by his mother-in-law, Viney Toussaint, several sisters and brothers in law, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Jones will be deeply missed and always remembered by those who loved him and those he loved. He leaves a legacy of faith and devotion to his family, as well as to his church home.
