FORT SCOTT, KS-In part one of Breaking the Cycle of Urban Poverty (BCUP),  I primarily dealt with the issue of Accountability and stated that we to survive in the 21st century, blacks must stop being hapless victims who panhandle the white “parent” society like a collective child.  Now I want to elaborate further.

Again, blacks have traditionally cast themselves in the role of a political child.  Like some spoiled children, blacks “demand” their “rights” from their mainstream “parents” (dominant society).  We seem convinced that we cannot solve our problems by ourselves.

A case in point is the 2010 Census Press Conference that was spearheaded by the National Urban League (NUL).  They were quick to stoke the fires of black victimization.  Here we were again, black “children” making more “demands” on our political “parents.”  Yes, Census undercounting is a legitimate issue, but the dominant society can’t forces “hard to count” people groups like blacks to participate in the Census if they choose not to.  Where’s the logic in CRM black leaders “demanding” that the Census Bureau hire more black managers and subcontractors?  Blacks have a legitimate distrust of the government and are pessimistic about a census having any tangible impact on their daily lives (demonstrating consistent civil rights myopia, Sharpton and the NUL probably waited too late to affect the 2010 Census).

Yes, the 2010 Census impacts federal funding as well as congressional and legislative districts, but the average black person is apathetic.  Why not appeal to blacks to get more involved? Why was there no mention of the $700 billion (according to Target Market News) blacks spend on nonsense annually instead of the comparative pittance of $200 million in government funding (allocated as a result of the 2010 Census)?

Of course those Old Guard civil rights “leaders” suspect that Census “under-representation” is due to discrimination.  Well, they are right!  Undercounting, expanding definitions of “whiteness” while limiting the definition of “blackness” are but a few Census Bureau tactics used to ensure white supremacy in an alleged democratic society (limiting black immigration is another).  This should be no surprise really.  It’s all about maintaining the balance of power (perpetual white supremacy and black subordination).

However, I hesitate to label our white brothers as our “enemies” for simply looking out for their own best interests.  Of course, I am not blind to the systemic discrimination blacks must contend with.  Instead, I have concluded that racism is a natural condition of the human heart and manifests as discriminatory policies whenever one group attains power over another.  I likened it to a mythological Hydra that grows back two heads for every one you think you’ve severed.

Since we cannot eradicate racism from the human condition, we should just circumvent it whenever possible. I say we abandon our quest to stomp out racism.  We have wasted time and energy on being America’s “racial firemen” for far too long.  This strategy has got us nowhere fast and we have fallen further behind as other people groups effortlessly run past us in the socioeconomic race to the American Dream finish line.

No, we must let our obsession with whites go.  We must stop obsessing on them and focus on fixing our own problems.  Our focus is too Anglo-centric.  We must take back the power to shape our own destiny.  This can only be done by letting the dominant culture “off the hook” so to speak.  We have an entitlement mentality that must go away if we are to develop ourselves fully.
