The Dallas ISD Teen School Board recently made it their goal to encourage all students in the district to donate 24 cents each to raise money for L.G. Pinkston High School student Jared Williams, who was paralyzed during a recent football game.
Buckets will be placed at each of the district’s 225 campuses, where students can donate at least 24 cents each—the number of the injured player’s football jersey—to help build a house.
Williams, a defensive back, was paralyzed during a game against North Dallas High School. He has started physical rehabilitation and is able to move his arms and upper body, but where he lives now is not designed for someone with his needs. Students hope to raise $50,000 to help build a house for Williams that will accommodate his special needs. Builders Hope of West Dallas has agreed to donate the additional $40,000 needed to make the home a reality.
Earlier in the season, students and staff at David W. Carter High School had raised more than $1,000 to help Williams and his family. The Teen Board hopes that a districtwide effort involving the district’s more than 157,000 students will help the family rebuild their lives.
Those who want to contribute to the fundraising efforts can deposit contributions at Bank of America for Project 24.
