Everyday People: Phillis Wheatley High SchoolHonored With Bust

The Phillis Wheatley High School, class of 1948, President Oscar Moore, commissioned renowned artist Tony Sherman to sculpture a bust of Ms. Phillis Wheatley. This beautiful work of art will be on display at the school as a memorial to this great and legendary poet.
Wheatley was the first published African-American poet and first African-American woman whose writings helped create the genre of African-American literature.
