HOUSTON– Celebrating 36 years of Academic Excellence, local Christian School, Living Word Christian Academy, hosted their 1st Annual Gala: Securing the Dream last month.  The event was a great success thanks to all who participated and volunteered their time.
Proceeds from the gala will directly benefit the student scholarship fund and special programming.  Two hundred people attended the gala dinner at the Crowne Plaza- Downtown, which featured Dr. Tony Evans of the Urban Alternative as the keynote speaker.

Dr. Evans has been a long-time advocate for education.  Founded in 1973 as Inwood Baptist Christian School, Living Word Christian Academy has provided a superb educational foundation for more than 7,000 students.

Some of the local partners that helped make the gala so successful were sponsors such as Exterran and Lone Star College-North Harris.  Senator Whitmire was a key event sponsor for this event.  The Honorable Sylvester Turner served Honorary Chair for this event.

His presence had a positive impact on the students, parents, teachers, and community members.  The event’s Master of Ceremonies, Robert “Praise Man” Washington led the crowd to sing and reminisce what being a student was like.

Wayne Norden and Eric Goodie, along with the rest of the Board Members, worked tirelessly on the event. Their hard work was evident.

Securing the Dream Gala was a complete success.  Every guest had a chance to catch up with friends, meet new ones and build working relationships.
The evening ended with the silent auction.  Some lucky guests were able to walk away with autographed footballs by Houston Texans Matt Schaub, Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Steve Slaton and Andre Johnson. Other silent auction items included pearl earrings, signed Astros baseball, Mary-Kay beauty baskets, and many other coveted items. The evening was filled with amazing student performances, familiar faces, and dinner.
