Dear Editor:
I, being a 29 year old Black man, am happy to see another Black man who has seen a problem, thought about the problem, and is doing what he can to solve the problem. A few of us are just bad parents. Most of us just can’t be there to teach them right from wrong because we are pretty much slaves to our jobs and we just hope and pray that our kids won’t get into that kind of stuff. Of course that’s wrong though. Lil Wayne is teaching them, R. Kelly is teaching them, Souljah boy is teaching them. That is okay, sometimes, but with out parents or others teaching them the “right” way to do things, they’re just doing what feels good. I used to gangbang, got kicked out of school, all that stuff that we chastise these youngsters about now, and it was fun so that’s how I know, but we have to give them something else to do. You can’t just say don’t gangbang then don’t give them anything else to do while you’re at work. Put them in some kind of activity that keeps them busy, football, boy scouts, give them a whole bunch of chores to do everyday after school. “An idle mind is the devil’s playground.” And this starts as early as five.
