HOUSTON- Saint James Missionary Baptist Church’s Anniversary Celebration for Pastor Melvin and Mrs. Estella Smith was held last month. The celebration commemorated 42 years of servitude to the community as well as service to the Lord.

A Pre-Anniversary service was held two days before that included devotion by the Deacons of the church. The congregation was led in song by the St. James Missionary Baptist Church Male Chorus.

The scripture and prayer followed soon after. The male chorus led the chruch in song for a second time and Deacon J. Tolbert welcomed everyone. The third generation (Smith’s Grand-children), graced everyone with a song. Pastor I.V. Alfred rounded out the Pre-Celebration event with a moving message.

Pastor Ronnie Matthews Sr. from Greater Commission B.C. was the guest speaker for the actual celebration just a few short days after the Pre-Celebration, and was introduced by Minister Calvin E. Smith Sr. The Welcome was led by Sherron Fowler and a Special presentation was performed  by the Great-Great -Grandkids and Sister Alice Knotts led the congregation in song. The celebration ended with a offering, presentations and closing remarks.

Members of the Anniversary Committee included: Minister Calvin Smith, Ruth Smith, and Beatrice Williams. Brenda Walker provided the programs and decorations was accredited to Janet Martinez. Dinner was served in the cafeteria and prepared by Doris Holmes and Dorothy Wade.
