Representative Yvonne Davis announces Aerospace Program

Rep. Yvonne Davis DALLAS-Rep. Yvonne Davis announces the launch of the 2009-2010 High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) program. HAS will enable Texas students to explore and become a part of NASA’s plan for space exploration to send humans back to the moon, on to Mars and beyond.
Students selected will utilize their math and science skills to complete 10 Web-based assignments during the school year, then travel to Johnson Space Center in Houston, during the summer and use the same skills to help investigate options for sending humans to Mars alongside their peers, NASA scientists and engineers.
Eligible students are required to meet the following criteria:
*Be a United States citizen
*Be a Texas resident
*Currently enrolled as a high school junior
*Have an interest in science, math, or engineering
*Able to commit to a relationship with JSC, including a one-week residential experience during in the summer
*Have access to the Internet and e-mail
Texas, in partnership with JSC and the educational community, developed HAS in 1999 to encourage more students to pursue studies and careers in science, techonology, engineering and mathematics.
