AUSTIN- The Austin Urban Market continues to remain firm in their commitment to creating a venue for local African-American owned businesses.
On Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on 1223 Rosewood Avenue next to Austin’s oldest surviving African-American owned newspaper “The Villager” the Austin Urban Market will take place again. This year’s theme will be “Doing It The Ujamaa Way.”
During the Austin Urban Market, a complimentary “Ujamaa Card” program will be introduced. The program is the next phase of ideas to encourage the African-American community to increase the amount of local buying. The complimentary Ujamaa Cards are being given out to people that have come out to previous Austin Urban Markets and signed the visitors list. When patrons sign up for the card, they are automaticly entered into a drawing for an additional $5 in Ujamaa Bucks. The cards are for only at the Austin Urban Market with participating vendors whom will provide a discount on their products and/or services to the cardholders. The event is free to the public.
