AN OBLIVIOUSLY “Born Again” believer in the birth, life, death and

Are Christians Confused? |

"The assumptions of fundamentalism
are so preposterous...it is pitifully manifest that both the science and
theology of many of those posing as authorities are half a century
behind the times. The notion of the Judge's charge to the Grand Jury
beginning with the reading of the First Chapter of Genesis as an account
of creation which Tennessee teachers must adopt savors of the sixteenth
rather than the twentieth century." One reading the forgoing text (An
excerpt from Rev. Frank Ballard’s July 11, 1925 article “Europe is
amazed by the Scopes Case”), could easily relate to the inane
controversy about the much ballyhooed The Da Vinci Code movie, which was
adopted from Dan Brown’s 2003 novel that topped the bestseller list in
100 countries for over a year.

WALTER JAMES HARDY was a man who enjoyed life, which he lived with
gusto during his youth. Yet, those who knew him best and loved him the
most would certainly tell you his twilight years were the happiest when
he was lovingly called “PaPa.” And, without a doubt, his most precious
memories will be refreshed during Father’s Day 2006, insofar it has been
almost a year since his long and wonderful life was celebrated on
December 2, 2005, at Lyons Unity MBC, 3215 Lyons Ave., with Dr. William
A Jordan officiating. Sister Tommie Ruth Allen, of Greater Law Memorial
Church of God in Christ; Sister Davetta Young and Bro. Donald Hill’s
solo made the order of service something special. Active pallbearers
were: Hilary Williams, Roy Eldridge, Jack Smith, Herbert Emerson, Jr.,
Rev. George Millican and Willie Beck.

In the old horror movie Poltergeist, there was a family that went
through a lot of scary gruesome things, because the house they bought
and lived in was built on a sacred burial ground. In the mind of this
journalist, America’s racial problems, which have adversely affected
African Americans since slavery ended, draws comparison to the
Poltergeist movie. Our country’s problems, past and present, are the
result of America building a prosperous nation on the backs of long gone
Black slaves who did most of the labor, but received no pay or credit.
Despite the efforts of mainstream American society to distort and change
the history of this country to keep the descendants of slaves from
respecting, acknowledging and reaping the accomplishments of their
ancestors to America.

PUBLISHER’S ANALYSIS

Texas Southern Unviersity’s problems
“ain’t” just a Black thing |
|
As much as we talk about our unique Black perspective, I’m sure that
our estimated 2 million readers realize that we must not only stay
abreast of world news and events, but we also have to keep our ear
to the ground to know what’s going on in Black American’s heads. And
for that reason it’s bothersome to hear Black people refer to TSU as
“our school.” True, TSU was established in 1947 so that UT wouldn’t
have to allow Heman Sweatt to attend their law school. On the other
hand, just like affirmative action-- once African Americans kicked
the door down--other people who weren’t part of the struggle ran
over us getting to the opportunities that we fought for. Mins.
Robert Muhammad refers to that scenario as “The tree shakers and
jelly makers.”

TwiliteZone.com— Special considerations
often super-cedes African-American News&Issues’ first come-first
serve policy, thus, we note the celebration of Rev. Michael Lewis’s
very productive and fruitful life, on May 27, 2006 at Shiloh MBC,
4420 Lyons Ave., with Pastor James R. Miller officiating. Rev. Lewis
was not only a fellow journalist, but he was also a Capricorn, who
actually grew up on Press Street (in Houston, Texas’ Fifth Ward), in
the same house I lived in when I was born. KCOH’s Michael Harris,
Linda Spears, Connie Lewis, Gabrielle Lewis and Diann Jackson
participated in the order of service. Active pallbearers were:
Melvin Lewis, Rodrick Echols, Deacon George Hale, Roy Glover,
Gregory Charles and Clifford Frazier. Walter Stevens, Reginald
Frazier, John Wesley Lewis, Lenny Benjamin, Walter McKinley Lewis,
Benjamin McIntire and Ronnie Lewis were honorary pallbearers for
Rev. Lewis, who was born Jan.16, 1945 in Bunkie, Louisiana to Booker
T. and Elidee Lewis. Michael, and a twin in a family of 11 children,
but was raised by adopted parents, Roland and Louise Smith. He
graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School and received his
Bachelor's degree in History and English at Southern University in
Baton Rouge, Louisian. ~See what Bud has for you!~
