WE MUST UNDERSTAND

America must work
to work

By Roy Douglas Malonson

Listen to Black leaders closely, and it becomes apparent that they are politically naďve, mainstream media programmed, or intellectually lazy as hell.  In addition, Black faces in high places are stuck on stupid to ignore African-AmericanNews& Issues’ Black perspective on any issue impacting descendants of slaves before coming to an intelligent conclusion.  On the other hand, if you’re among the knee jerk naysayers and/or our detractors who tend to berate our “racist opinions,” please do yourself a favor and finish reading this editorial before you decide to accept, or reject, our premise.  Okay, now with an open mind let’s explore each of those preceding indictments.

We Must Understand, since African Americans are the most culturally and historically unique people on earth, one would have to be history illiterate not to know that we never were, or ever shall be included in America’s Declaration, “We the people.”  Accordingly, we would have to be pretty dumb to believe that politics work the same for descendants of slaves as they work for descendants of the “Founding Fathers.”  In addition, an oppressed people (that depend on the mainstream media for their major source of information) put themselves in the same position that the Jews were in when a racist Adolph Hitler targeted them in Nazi Germany.  Finally, since only Black America’s best and brightest control organizations like the Urban League, they must be just plain lazy.  Wait! Don’t get defensive.

Instead, check this example: “But the greatest disparity exists in the level of financial security between Blacks and Whites, the Urban League report contends, pointing out, for example that the unemployment rate among Blacks is 10 percent and among Whites only 4.4 percent.”  On the surface there’s nothing wrong with the report.  However, since AAN&I has been lamenting unemployment for over a decade, we have plenty of evidence that over 30 percent of our people are unemployed. And the same research data is also available for any person that can read above a third grade level (e.g., organizations like the Urban League , CORE, NAACP, et al), if they aren’t too lazy to do the research, rather than depend on mainstream America’s “whitewashed” data that actually changes our history to advance their agenda.

We Must Understand, it’s totally indefensible for African Americans to consider themselves leaders when they have no idea where they are going, because they’ve forgotten where they come from.  Perish the thought that this is about the Urban League per se.  Yes, we remember how Sylvia Brooks, president of the Houston branch (HAUL) attacked our articles on Dr. Priscilla Slade a couple of years ago (See Publisher’s News Analysis.)  But, we don’t hold grudges.  We simply consider the source.  In addition, since we’re Black America’s editorial watchers on the wall,  we can’t waste time  saying, “I told you so” (when we prove to be prophetic), because we’re sure that those whom we’re forced to name, shame and blame should already know that truth is a double edged sword that cuts going and coming.

Even so, we have no desire to further disparage any of our (real or imagined) Black leaders, because history has proven that the Black community simply won’t work, if we don’t all work together (toward leaving a legacy of progress, rather than divided and confused mess), for our future generations to build on.  We’re sure you know where Fredrick Douglas was coming from when he opined, “Power is not conceded without a struggle.” Yet, something evidentially is missing in translation, because today’s Black leaders don’t seem to realize that struggling to be free is hard work.  Think WW Smackdown if you need an example. Those wrestlers work hard when they’re struggling to free themselves from their adversary’s death grip that’s applied to squeeze the life out of them and render them powerless?

We Must Understand, freedom “ain’t” free.  Yet, there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that our civil rights advocacy groups have opted for corporate America’s “hush money,” because membership drives are hard work. For sure, laziness is an addiction and evil in high places definitely knows how to feed addictions. They even package our Black History for us.  That’s why they not only control the history our kids are taught, but profit from dividing and confusing them.  Black politicians even hire White “political consultants” to pimp Black voters.  Block walking in the ‘hood is hard work, indeed, but for the sake of diminishing space, let’s cut to the chase.  Black America must stop outsourcing the struggle and roll up their sleeves and go back to work like we did in the pre-affirmative action days.

We also must work hard to agree on a common agenda that will put unemployed Black Americans back to work, so that Black America will work.
