BILL COSBY (left) and TV host Tavis Smiley represent two different generations of Made in American African elitist.

Elitist African Americans
divided and confused

   “This year's State of the Black Union, hosted by television and radio commentator Tavis Smiley, in Houston, Texas, was deeply disappointing. Often billed as the national forum for discussing the issues most important to Black America, the forum this year lacked any substantive conversation about the divisive issues and tactics used to distract Blacks and keep us at odds. This year's Black Union was divided into two parts: economic empowerment, and defining the African American agenda, a continuation of last year's conversation.

The Houston Chronicle has
a good and bad story;
too bad they only print the good

  Who is the Houston Chronicle trying to fool in its Sunday, March 19, 2006 Op-Ed - “TSU has a good and bad story; we must report both” by James Campbell? When has the Chronicle ever opened itself up to real criticism, except in a limited fashion such as its Letters to the Editor or corrections page? A reputation once sullied by a page one story or savaged by its op-ed page, can never be redeemed by the paper’s controlled op-ed policy and minuscule so called correction page. The Houston Chronicle is the only major daily in our city. It is the 500 pound gorilla that everyone is afraid to take to task.

MILDRED LOUISE KING HARRIS was raised in an era when African Americans had bible based family values, outstanding work ethics, love for their neighbors and a commitment to serve their community. Therefore it was fitting that she was eulogized as a virtuous woman who delighted in collecting friends (as much as those who treasure collecting unique and precious objects), during the June 11, 2005 celebration of a long and glorious life at Mt. Olive BC, 3515 Yellowstone, with Pastor Charles Benton officiating.

East Texas News
Everyone of us adults have things in our lives that are on our “must do list.” For this journalist, making sure that our masses of Black, Hispanic and poor White people that are illegally trapped in America’s Industrial prison complexes, are not forgotten! As a historian, the similarities between America’s modern prisons and American slavery of the past are too numerous not to draw comparisons. Those comparisons start first and foremost with the architects of past slavery and modern day prison industrial complexes – Evil White Men. The second historical comparisons of note are the reasons behind the past long lasting United States slave system and the present day popular ever expanding American prison system.

PUBLISHER’S ANALYSIS
by Roy Douglas Malonson

Dr. Paige is a “slam dunk” choice to replace
a fouled out Dr. Slade

Perhaps, if you’re among African-AmericanNews &Issues’ audited estimated 2 million readers, you will remember an article that became a controversy. It reported that I closed the Acres Home Citizens Chamber of Commerce’s 11th Annual Awards banquet by prophesizing, “If you all sit around and let Rod Paige become president of TSU, it’s going to be the end of our open admission school.” So, I wasn’t the slightest bit surprised when Dr. Priscilla Slade started taking fire from the same Republican controlled Board of Regents that appointed her to ruin…oops, I mean run the school. Need I waste space explaining why many educators in the audience interpreted my statement to be a vendetta against Dr. Paige and his hired gun, Terry Abbott, rather than a warning to the wise?
Even so, HISD’s high priced spin doctor helped make Dr. Paige the first Secretary of Education, who “just happened to be Black.”

AFRICAN-AMERICAN NEWS & ISSUES

TwiliteZone.com—I refuse to apologize for asking an expert on “Babies Having Babies” if she told young girls why they have periods on Houston’s City Council member Sis. Ada Edwards’ early Sunday morning call-in talk show that’s aired 6 - 9 a.m. on The Box (97.9 FM) radio. Hey, I thought doctors and educators were teaching pubescent girls that ovulation occurs when a mature egg is released from the ovary, pushed down the fallopian tube and is available to be fertilized. The lining of the uterus has thickened to prepare for a fertilized egg. If no conception occurs, the uterine lining as well as blood will be shed. The shedding of an unfertilized egg and the uterine wall is the time of menstruation. If they aren’t telling young lasses sexual arousal heightens and that they’re the most vulnerable at that particular period, who are?
