Nationwide Strategy Needed to
Ward off Investigations and
Protect African American Officials, Political Power |
|
In an age where African American political leaders are under attack at
every level of public service, the time is now for Black leaders to come
together with a united strategy to fight the assault on the right to
hold public office.

EARSEL HAROLD KILLYON was one of the African American living
historians that helped write an indelible page in the history of
America’s transportation industry, which also was the vanguard of long
distance truck drivers who desegregated Jimmy Hoffa’s powerful
Teamsters’ Union. Nevertheless, he wasn’t utilized as the “Road
Warrior,” of his youth.

“If I can help somebody as I pass along. If I can cheer somebody with a
word or a song. If I can show somebody they're traveling wrong, then my
living shall not be in vain. If I can do my duty as a Christian ought.
If I can bring back beauty to a world up wrought. If I can spread love's
message that the Master taught, then my living shall not be in vain,”...

The return of dogs to U.S. law enforcement on a large scale is something
that bears watching by African Americans. I am sure most of you all have
seen the scenes of German shepherd dogs attacking Black civil rights
demonstrators in the 60’s and 70’s. Since the tragedy of “911” American
law enforcement has used the excuse that we need dogs to thwart the
threat caused by terrorism and terrorists. Maybe it’s me, but it seems
like just about everything that “we” use to fight terrorism, “we”
eventually will use those same tactics or methods on Black people here
in the U.S.

Christmas came early for
Jarvis Johnson and his Santa Claus were the 3, 264 voters in
Houston, Texas’ District B that grudgingly returned to the polls
on Dec. 10, 2005 and elected him to be their representative on
their city government’s council for the next two years.

TwiliteZone.com--Sadly
it took a funeral for me to realize that my foxy aunt Ora Lee
Fonteno (Robinson) celebrated her birthday two days before mine
(Jan. 7) and six days before her big sister’s, who was my momma.
That salient revelation made me realize that I’ve been derelict
in visiting with my elders, as we celebrated her long and
eventful life at Clay & Clay Funeral Home Chapel, 3101 Lyons
Ave., on Dec. 17, 2005, with Rev. Daryl Foster officiating.
Active pallbearers were: Andre Parrott, Anthony Odom, Michael
Sanders, Billy Robertson, Bud John-son and Bruce Johnson.
Thurman Hayes, Benjamin Brown, John Johnston and Antonius
Copeland were honorary pallbearers for Ora Lee, who was born
Jan. 5, 1917 to the proud parents of Rev. William Paul and
Pearlie Easter Fonteno in Houston, Texas. Ora Lee, a bright
student, attended Bruce Elemen-tary and graduated from Phillis
Wheatley High School.
