You spend a lot of time thinking about it, perhaps tell a few folk what your plans are, and may even put it down on paper, but that is as far as it goes. Of course you have some lame excuse to justify your actions or lack of. You know the usual ones…too broke, too tired, too busy, etc. Then one day you look up, some 10 or 20 years later, regretting that you never followed through on your plan, and mad because some you know shared their plan with you, but rather than making excuses, they put their plan into action. So now that I have you thinking about that plan again, what’s your excuse? If you are using the “I’m too broke” excuse, it is likely that you have been in the pass and will continue to be “too broke,” so you need to find a way to implement your plan on your broke budget. Maybe you want to go to school, start a business, or go to the Motherland. If so, you need to save your pennies, and seriously look for ways to fund your plan, such as scholarships, grants, and donations. Perhaps you need to drop some fat to add a few days on to your life and enjoy the comfort of being able to walk up a flight of stairs without losing your breath. Could be that you are addicted to cigarettes, alcohol or drugs. Maybe you are in an abusive relationship. You must know that any one of these things can lead to an early death, so if you are serious about saving your life, you will seek out help and you must know that there are free agencies that offer help. But, you must also know that you have to take the first step. So what’s your excuse? Whatever it is that you need to or want to do, I would suggest that you stop making excuses and start taking those steps to move your plan into action. Don’t get discouraged because so-called loved ones and friends do not support you, assist you, or encourage you. Just because mama ‘nem or your significant other does not have faith in you, should not deter you from having faith in yourself. We cannot be afraid to try, especially when we understand the saying “nothing beats a failure but a try.” We cannot allow the nay sayers to instill fear in our hearts and prevent us from trying, simply because they were always too afraid to try anything. So what is that thing that you have always wanted to do again? And what is your excuse for not doing it this time? Remember, “Excuses are tools of the incompetent and those who use them seldom accomplish anything” and never forget, Aluta Continua, the struggle continues.
