Don’t Be Surprised, Be Prepared

By Dr. Safisha Nzingha Hill Adeleke

If you pay close attention to the news, by now you have heard about former Secretary of Education, William Bennett’s suggestion on the best way to reduce crime. He basically said if the goal were to reduce crime, the solution would be to “abort every Black baby in this country.” Now check this out. He did not say, “every poor baby” or “every baby conceived by a mother on drugs.” Nor did he say “every Jewish baby” or “every Asian baby.” He said EVERY BLACK BABY.
Now I understand that some folk could not believe a former secretary of education said this. Many folk were shocked, angry, and surprised. Some politicians and “leaders” called for Bennett to apologize for his statement, however Bennett alleged that the comments were taken out of context and refused to apologize. And why should he? After all, he is saying out loud what has already been discussed, and that is planning the genocide of Black folk. As I heard one conscious brother say the other day, "Don’t be surprised, be prepared."
Bennett’s comment clearly suggested genocide of Black folk and there have been and are on-going attempts. Remember the Tuskegee Experiment where Black men were purposely infected with syphilis? And has it ever crossed your mind that AIDS is a manufactured disease and that the story about a monkey in Africa being the source of origin is just that…a story. Look at the faces of those most affected by AIDS. Some of you may have read the article that came out the day before Bennett’s statement about a doctor in Little Rock, Arkansas, who is offering free abortions to women who are victims of hurricane Katrina. Not free maternity care, not free pediatric care, but free abortions. Once again, look at the faces of the women most affected by hurricane Katrina, then look in the mirror. Notice anything?
So, how do we prepare ourselves in the wake of a planned genocide? First we need to educate ourselves on our history. This will prevent us from being “bamboozled, hookwinked and had.” In doing this we must recognize and give honor to the One and the Ones, and pray that we maintain a strong warrior spirit on and off the battlefield. Second, we must take over the education of our own children and remove them from the clutches of those who are planning the genocide (like the former secretary of education).
Ever wonder why it is that we hate ourselves so and seem bent on destroying our people, both mentally and physically, through ignorance, violence, drugs and alcohol? (Products of public education.) Some of you recall the unity of the Black community before integration, when our Black minds were still in tact (and our schools were all Black).
Third, we must focus on our own economic development base, and not only support Black owned businesses, but invest in them and even start up our own business, even if its a little something on the side. The Honorable Minister Farrakhan warned that the mask of civility would begin to come off. We cannot afford to be surprised when the rug is pulled out from under our feet. We had best be prepared.
Remember, one of my favorite African proverbs, “The best way to fight an alien culture, is to live your own”, and never forget, Aluta Continua, the struggle continues.
