Blacks Don’t “Own Copyright” or “Patent” on Crime in America.

By Darwin Campbell

When I heard about the comments made by former President Ronald Reagan Secretary of Education, William Bennett, on a radio call in show about his answer for reducing the crime problem in America, it just reinforced the fact that all Black people in America must support the Millions More Movement.
The negative perception of us as a people continues to ooze from the mouths of these conservative Right Wingers who want nothing short of what Adolf Hitler wanted in Germany during World War II – the annihilation and extermination of a race of people.
For Hitler, the people targeted were Jews, but in America, it is African Americans, especially Black Male citizens living in this country.
Using Bennett’s own words, you be the judge.
“…You could abort every black baby in this country and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down,” said Bennett.
Bennett’s words, thoughts and poisonous venom are but a sampler and reflection of the kinds of bigoted discussions going on in every state across America among those elitists who consider themselves Right-Wing Conservatives or Right-Wing Christians.
I do not believe for one minute and neither should you that Blacks “own the copyright” or “patent” on crime in America.
There is no scientific data or studies that even suggest that our genes are flawed or that we are born evil with tendencies to gravitate toward hellish chicanery. I take offense to Bennett’s comment, because I was born out of wedlock and was raised by my grandparents.
I received a high standard of values not only from them, but also from the “village” or “block” and despite poor conditions and very little money, they did not train us “to grow up pillaging, robbing the white man or raping his women.” We had ancestors and Black teachers that handed down the historical lessons of the past and prepared us for the difficult world we were about to inherit. I think they did a fine job just like thousands of other “out of wedlock” sons and daughters who are now adults today.
The great majority of us are not murderers or criminals. We pay taxes, are married, have our own children or are involved in very positive lifestyles and mature behaviors.
I don’t feel that my mother should have aborted me. I would like to believe that God put me here for a reason as did he others who came into the world under similar circumstances.
It is a crock of crap to suggest that Black people give America a bad name reputation around the world. Shame on Bill Bennett and the other “Right Wing” fools who continue pushing the idea in the white media that America is better off without Black people.
If you look at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the attacks on Black leadership nationwide, the way police and court system treat Blacks and conditions in Black communities across Texas, the South or nationwide, it is plain to see that the source of many situations, problems and Black conditions are a result of the quest by these racist, elitist groups to keep Blacks down.
The problem does not lie with us. There is a selective conspiracy against African-Americans in this country and like the old folks back home used to say, you are truly “blind as a bat” if you don’t see it.
Issues in America are economic and your ability to produce wealth and my ability to produce a livelihood for the family are the main priorities that drive a capitalistic society.
It is a shame that Blacks have been targeted for termination by the powers that be, whose drunken aspirations continue to be to hurt, damage and ruin our self-esteem and ability to compete on an equal playing field and denying us a fair chance.
Since it is apparent that African Americans are swimming up stream and against a current wing in society trying to erase us from history, I believe the Millions More Movement is the start of something great for Black America. It is under attack by the ignorant because those are the people who are not walking in the shoes of millions of African Americans who have been labeled, stereotyped, shut out of opportunities and left to die on the roadside like the man robbed on the Road to Damascus (The Good Samaritan Story in the Gospels).
We have got to pick up ourselves. We cannot depend on anyone else any longer!!! Hurricane Katrina proved the government cares nothing about the plight of the poor. Washington and the White House are so deeply indentured to lobbyists and PAC money that no one listens to the plights of the elderly or the poor.
The MMM points Black America in the right direction and calls on each of us to do our part to support our businesses, our community and grassroots leaders and improvements in our own neighborhoods. It contains all the major life changing issues that can make a difference in our future and the future of our children. It is the one voice from every corner of African American society that speaks to issues of Unity, Spiritual Values, Education, Economic Development, Political Power, Reparations, Prison Industrial Complex, Health, Artistic and Cultural Development and Peace. It is the beginning of our return to greatness as a people.
Uniting and mobilizing to save us after leaving Washington should be the most important priority. The momentum of the MMM gives us that chance to be independent, and change our own direction and course as a people for centuries to come.
