Black Churches Tap Own Talents, Resources to Help Survivors

For Kevin and Peggy Thomas, losing their home
in New Orleans to the wrath of Hurricane Katrina, was tragic,
but it is nothing compared to the swell of support from the new
friends her family gained after escaping deplorable conditions
and making it to Dallas.

Linda Dunson,
Not Just Another Lawyer
Attorney Linda Dunson
said it takes a very special person to become an attorney, because every
case can be different.
She vouches on being that special person and will get the job done. A
true attorney, according to her, has to stay focus on each case, because
sometimes you can win some and also can loose a few.
“Some people do not know the meaning of an attorney,” said Dunson. “An
attorney is a professional who represents clients in a court or advises
them on legal matters.” |

East Texas News
What did our country,
government and people learn from the tragedy of September 11, 2001
(911)? After the devastation of hurricane Katrina, I would have to say
we haven’t learned much. Homeland security, FEMA, the U.S. military, the
coast guard and the rest of the people in charge of taking care of U.S.
citizens, displayed very little professionalism in our recent American
disaster Katrina. In my mind, the color and financial condition of the
evacuees were a major factor in the rescue, evacuation, security and
stabilization of New Orleans and the other areas hit by hurricane
Katrina. Katrina was a litmus test for the United States and we
(America) failed the test with large scale bungling.

THIS BUD’S FOR
YOU
I was set to give KCOH’s
elder statesman, DJ Don Sams, a belated birthday (Sept. 30) shout-out,
when the Houston Press edition that named the station “Houston’s Best”
hit the streets, thus I can package my kudos and also salute the G. M.
Mike Petrizzo and the Program Director Travis Gardner, insofar as they
quietly work behind the scenes to make everything else works so
effectively. For Sure, Wash Allen’s (“Houston’s Best Talk Show”)
Confessions, is surely the most unique program in the nation and Michael
Harris’ Person-to-Person generates more controversy than all of the
other asinine call-in radiotalk shows combined. KCOH Radio is the oldest
black radio station in Texas. Established in 1953, KCOH began
broadcasting from downtown Houston in the M&M building. |
