Blacks Must Fight Coup D'état against Leaders and South Dallas

By Darwin Campbell

The Black community in Dallas must not fall for or accept the public relation’s crap and explanations being thrown out by the FBI and NAACP on the attacks on Black leaders.
Public relations is a grand tool used by many companies to paint gleaming pictures of situations and can also be used to create and present positive images and messages about persons, places and things.
African Americans in Dallas are facing an attempted “hostile” corporate takeover of the Black community and political power in the South Dallas and the southern sector of the city.
Blacks living in the southern sector should know that the mayor, some city officials and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are using “sneaky” public relations tactics in the Black community to keep Blacks at bay and control the news spin surrounding the investigation of Black leaders.
It is amazing to me that the NAACP held a meeting to allow the public to vent its frustrations and share its concerns about the attacks on Black leaders in Dallas.
However, nothing concrete came from that meeting other than a statement from the Dallas NAACP president who said the FBI indicated that Blacks should be reassured that “there is nothing racial about the investigation and that Blacks are not being targeted by the investigation.”
However, the meeting did not stop the smear campaign against Black leaders.
And to add insult to injury, not even 24 hours after the NAACP’s weak attempt to calm the Black community with its “toothless rhetoric,” it was announced that three more high profile African Americans were named in subpoena – State Sen. Royce West, State Rep. Teri Hodge and DISD trustee Ron Price.
The subpoena is part of the FBI’s investigation into tax-credit housing projects, contracting and development companies and alleged kickbacks and corruption at city hall.
Already part of this pointless sting are Dallas Council members Don Hill, James Fantroy, Leo Chaney, Jr., Maxine Thornton Reese, planning commissioner D’Angelo Lee and several other Black officials.
Fact: STILL … Only Blacks are being investigated to date.
The FBI, NAACP, some Dallas leaders have insulted the intelligence of African Americans with that stupid fool statement.
My grandmother raised me to always tell the truth and shame the devil and this is not a coincidence.
African Americans must prepare to fight for the future of the southern sector of Dallas right now.
Former Dallas Councilman Al Lipscomb said it best when he described the current investigations as a serious attack and a complete invasion of privacy and a ploy to destroy the credibility of African American leaders.
Don’t be fooled…These series of investigations are clearly a defined, planned, measured attack to smear Black leaders who stand up for the Black community.
Looking closely, you can see a calculated plan afoot to divide, dilute and disperse the Black vote using public relations tactics and “Safe Negro” cronies who are indeed in the fight only to get what they can.
You think it’s dog-eat-dog on Wall Street or in company board rooms in America.
This is shaping up to be one of the most brutal dog fights for power I have ever seen in political and business circles.
It appears that in the middle of this battle the NAACP is nothing more than a “Black faced-mouthpiece” for those wanting to bring down our leadership.
It is sad to see them using their valuable influence and “public relations” machine to cloud the real truth about the motives of those attacking these hardworking Black leaders.
During all this, I also ask where are those “stand down” preachers who “prayed and hoped” that love would bring unity and cure all the tension and hate in the city. Their assessments were miscalculated, sadly wrong and totally mistaken.
It also appears that the Dallas chapter is one agency being used in this investigation to keep the cap on the powder keg that is Dallas from “going up in smoke.”
These groups and organizations are not speaking or working for you. If you have been sitting on the sidelines, you are urged to stand up, speak out and demand that the FBI and others attacking Black leadership in the city to “stand down.” You can no longer expect or depend on a “community spokesman” to step up to the mike and fight for you.
How long will African Americans sit on their hands and in the words of one young Black upcoming politician, “be pimped by preachers, churches and Black organizations?” This must stop and only you as Black citizens must rise up, protest and force this to end now.
There is power in numbers and when African Americans stand up in unity and protest like they did in the 1950s and 1960s, there will be results, action and change.
I am reminded of Cindy Sheehan, who is taking on President Bush over the lies that make up the war in Iraq. His misrepresentation and the corporate greed surrounding the Iraq war cost her one son.
She is a courageous person whose action, voice and camping outside the president’s ranch in Crawford, Texas has drawn the attention of millions and has started a movement that is growing rapidly around the country.
Wake up South Dallas!!! You have the same power as Cindy Sheehan to demand better of your city and government. You have the power to get Laura Miller and others off your backs and it is time to send the same message to those wanting the heads of our leaders on a platter that Ms. Sheehan is sending to President Bush. The vote against strong mayor movement last May, proved that African Americans have a strong and powerful voice in the city. It is time to renew this unity and show Mayor Miller and all her cronies that this city belongs to its residents… not to Highland Park, North Dallas or to any conglomeration of business lobbies.
This is a battle for the future of Black Dallas. Dallas belongs to the people and it’s it time for its people to take back the city now.
