HOUSTON - Texas Southern University is opening its doors to help bring comfort and relief to college students from Louisiana who were affected by Hurricane Katrina.  TSU will admit any student currently enrolled at the institutions affected by the hurricane for the fall 2005 semester.
For more information call 713-313-1059 or 713-313-7071.

Ongoing - TSU faculty and staff have been asked to contribute $50 or more in a special fund created to support the relief efforts.  The relief drive continued at Reliant Stadium at the Labor Day Classic-TSU vs. Prairie View. The public was asked to bring $5 and toiletries for the displaced students. The University also provided free tickets to the Labor Day Classic for college students and their families housed in area shelters.

HOUSTON - The Career Planning and Placement Center offices at Texas Southern University (TSU) announced the launch of a new Web site, Tiger Connect, located at www.myinterfase.com/tsu/student and www.myinterfase.com/tsu/employer that helps automate numerous functions found within the career centers and enhances the services offered to campus students and employers. Powered by CSO Research's Interfase system, Tiger Connect streamlines student and employer registration, resume referrals, document management, placement tracking, job posting and management, interview scheduling, career fair management, resume books and alumni mentoring. As a result, students have 24-hour access to easily register, search jobs, send online inquiries, and manage multiple resumes, cover letters, and other employment related documents. Employers can quickly and easily post jobs on campus, choose to receive "online applications" directly from the system with current resumes attached and sign up for career fairs.
"We are very excited about the launch of this new Web site as it exemplifies the focus of our office on supporting the needs of students, graduates and employers. By implementing this new system we will continue to enhance our services related to full-time employment, internships/cooperative education, student employment, volunteer service learning, federal work-study and alumni employment," says Harry Clack, director of the Cooperative Education and Placement Services Office at Texas Southern University.

HAWKINS - A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new 300-bed residence hall at Jarvis Christian College is planned for Friday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the open area in front of the Chapel (north entrance). Everyone is invited to attend. President Sebetha Jenkins, members of the Jarvis Board of Trustees and various community leaders will be on hand using the symbolic gold shovels to break ground, which will represent the official start of new construction for the Living and Learning Complex. The cost for construction is estimated at 10.6 million. For more information, contact Dr. William Smialek or Mr. Larry Everett at (903) 769-5700.
